Looking for a faster Browser, with no ads

I been looking for a faster Browser & I want no ads, on this PC, the OS is Vista.

This is what I came up with:

Browser - Free Pale Moon (Firefox base browser):

http://www.palemoon.org/

After downloading, I click arrow next to Pale Moon (top left hand corner)>option>this gives me a pop up>click privacy>check "tell sites I do not want to be tracked">now under history Pale Moon will:>change to "use custom setting for history" & change accept third party cookies to "never".

Browser now done, now onto ads, I going to use the following add-ons:

Free DoNotTrackMe:

https://www.abine.com/dntdetail.php

Free  Adblock Edge:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/adblock-edge/

Free Flashblock:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/flashblock/

Free BetterPrivacy:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/betterprivacy/

That is my add-ons done.

I download Free MAXA cookie manager to the PC:

http://www.maxa-tools.com/cookie.php

I now have a fast browser with no ads, if you still have ads, it could be for two reasons, you have not enable the add-ons or you have Pups.

To make sure add-ons are enabled

Click arrow next to Pale Moon (top left hand corner)>Add-ons>check there enabled.

If you think you have Pups, I have found that you require more than one tool to remove Pups.

First tool to run is free Junkware Removal Tool (also called JRT)

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/junkware-removal-tool/

Second tool to run is free Adwcleaner:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/

Now run free Malwarebytes (also called Mbam)

http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/

(Open Malwarebytes'>Go to Settings> Scanner Settings>Change "Action for potentially unwanted programs [PUP} to " Show in Results List and Check for removal")

You now have a fast browser, with no ads, if not let me know.

No Internet - Driver Problem

Got an email today “Can you help a mate out who has a PC which won’t connect to the net” “sure, tell him to bring it over”, malware with proxy server is what I’m thinking, however when the person turns up, he tell me that he brought the PC from a boot fair, it was full of viruses so he formatted it & reinstalled XP home, since then it has not connected to the net.
This is what I did:
Looking at the PC, its old, looks like an old school PC – I have a good idea what the problem could be.
I connect the PC up, click IE; sure enough it does not connect to the net.
Going on my hunch I check the drivers:
Start>Control panel>System>Hardware tab>Device manager
Sure enough my hunch was right two drivers missing, which are required for the net.
I put a Belin N Wireless USB Adapter in the USB, windows picks it up, but cannot find a driver for it, I put a USB stick in which has the driver on it, driver loads & in no time, I set the Belin N Wireless USB Adapter up.

Click IE & it connects to the net, go to windows updates & tell it to update:
(if the PC had not updated, I would of stopped work on the PC, an OS that won’t update is not worth working on, note that people with pirate OS, if your OS does not update get a better pirate OS)
There are a lot of updates so I go for a cuppa tea.
After rebooting a number of times & returning to windows update, I have all the security updates, I return to window updates & click custom (not Express) I’m looking on the left for any driver updates, there are none.
I then download free DriverMax:
I’ve use this program many times before, not all the driver are good, so I download both the drivers I require, but I install them one at a time, making sure I do a system restore point before installing a driver, only when I happy with the first driver do I install the second driver.
I remove my Belin N Wireless USB Adapter, reboot the PC, click IE, it connect to the net, I remove DriverMax.

I then contact the person to pick up the PC, he was happy with what I did.

DriverMax

Please don't ask how to use free DriverMax - There are plenty of  video's on YouTube.

Free DriverMax only allows you to download two drivers per 24 hours

If you've going to leave DriverMax on your PC you might want to remove it from startup.

How to speed up an old XP PC.

Speeding up young James PC.
Young James brought his PC down to me & asked that I put more ram into his PC & could I make his PC faster, he explained that he is just 13 years old & has not got a lot of money.
This is what I did.
1.   After connecting the PC up & booting the PC, I downloaded free speccy:

I ran free speccy, this gave me the PC spec & told me if the PC was running hot.
Spec:
            XP home
            Emachine 4210
            2.80 GHz Intel Celeron Processor
            512mb ram.
            80 GB HD (half full)
The PC is not running hot.
2.   I take the side casing off & I can see the CPU fan is full of dust so is the heatsink, so I shutdown the PC & remove the CPU fan & remove the heatsink, the paste behind the heatsink has not dried up, I clean the CPU fan & the heatsink & clean off the old paste, put new paste on, re-seat the heatsink & put on the CPU fan.

3.   On all PC's I work on I put free Secunia Personal Software Inspspector on, so I booted up & download free Secunia Personal Software Inspspector & run it, a few programs needed updating, so I update them & get a score of 100%, left PC running & went to the shop for more ram.

4.   Upon returning check with speccy the PC's temperatures & all is well, shut PC down & upgraded the ram from 512mb to 1 GB, put side casing back on & rebooted PC.

5.   Upon reboot I noticed the PC is no faster

6.   The PC has Free Avira (AV), free Mbam (AM), Free Superantispyware (AS) & it’s using windows firewall, I update Free Avira, full scan & it’s clean, I then do the same with free Mbam & Free Superantispyware & all is clean, I notice that with Free Avira that the program working alright, but it does not look right (looks like Free Avira use to look like, not how is does now), so I removed Free Avira & re-downloaded it after (looks right now)

7.   The PC is still running slow, happy that the PC is clean & up to date, I look at getting it to run faster, I open IE, I see a few toolbars, I don’t like toolbars so I shut IE down, go to add & remove & delete the toolbars, then open IE, I check the setting, the setting are still the default setting, however James has blocked third party cookies (good lad).
I view toolbars & third party cookies as a form of spyware.

8.   I then go Start>all programs>Startup – PSI is here & so is Microsoft office, I leave PSI but right click Microsoft office & delete it (right click anything here & delete if not required on startup)

9.   I notice free Ccleaner on the PC, so I open it & run the cleaner, I keep running it until it finds nothing, I then click registry on the left & run it until is finds nothing, I then click tools on the left side, then click startup, then click what I don’t require on startup, then click disable on right side (do NOT click delete, if you click disable you can always go back & enable it if you make a mistake)

How do you know what to disable from startup ? If you’re not sure google what’s there, don’t disable anything to do with your antivirus program, free PSI or any programs with real time protection.

10. I notice the PC has not been defrag for a long time, so I download free smart defrag:

I set it up; then tell it to do a defrag & go for a cuppa tea.

11. After a cuppa tea, I decide to disable Searchindexer.exe:

Start>run>Services.msc >ok  - Look for two items “Indexing Services” and "Windows Search." double click them & disable them.
Then:
Start>run>msconfig> services tab >uncheck indexing services (if there) reboot

12. Removed speccy, shut PC down & took it back to 13 year old James, charge him for the ram, cleaning the CPU fan & reseating the heatsink I did for free, by the time I got back home, there was an email from James, “bloody great, goes like a bat out of hell, what did you do?” now you know James
